Matejko. Painter and history

Among Polish painters, there is probably no artist more widely known than Jan Matejko. His paintings accompany successive generations of Polish women and men, at least from the beginning of their historical education. The exhibition “Matejko. Painter and history” will bring this fascinating face of the art of the Krakow artist closer, presenting both the paintings of the great historical cycle and dozens of works smaller in size, but significant in content (including those from private and foreign collections), as well as sketches and props used in the creative process – a total of over three hundred works showing the richness of these achievements. It will also remind about Matejko’s social merits, collecting numerous testimonies of gratitude and appreciation addressed to him. The exhibition is open from June 23, 2023 to January 7, 2024
