Tadeusz Pankiewicz’s Tree

On June 3, 2022, on the 80th anniversary of the first deportation from the Krakow ghetto, a tree was planted in the square at the intersection of Józefińska and Limanowskiego streets in Krakow, commemorating Tadeusz Pankiewicz, a pharmacist from the Krakow ghetto. Tadeusz Pankiewicz has had his tree in Jerusalem since 1984. It is an olive tree planted on the Avenue of the Righteous in the garden of the Yad Vashem Institute by Irena Halpern-Cynowicz, saved by Pankiewicz. Irena Halpern survived the war and years later applied for Pankiewicz to be awarded the medal of the Righteous Among the Nations. The guides invite you to visit the former Pankiewicz pharmacy https://muzeumkrakowa.pl/en/branches/eagle-pharmacy
